RE Curriculum
‘Religious Education plays a central role in offering the broad and balanced curriculum that will enable students to participate fully in life in modern Britain and the wider world. It aims to enable young people to hold informed and balanced conversations about religions and beliefs. It sets out to provide a safe environment where they can explore their own ideas and learn to evaluate the opinions of others’

As a church school, at Aldermaston we want our children to have a rich and deep knowledge and understanding of Christianity as a global living faith. We also want our children to appreciate the diversity of other faiths and respect wider beliefs and practices. Through our curriculum children explore religion’s influence on Britain’s cultural heritage and in the lives of individuals and societies in different times, cultures and places. We aim to develop children who can reflect on their own religious, spiritual and philosophical thinking.
We use a combination of two schemes to deliver the RE curriculum - Understanding Christianity and the Oxford Diocesan Board of Education.
During their time at Aldermaston, the children will have the opportunity to explore different faiths in more detail - Judaism in KS1, Sikhism in Lower KS2 and Islam in Upper KS2, as well as other faiths where relevant. This will enable them to find out more about each faith and to compare and contrast them to Christianity. As part of the EYFS curriculum, the children will explore key faiths through the awareness of different festivals and customs. This is also part of our commitment to teaching the British values of mutual respect and tolerance of different cultures and religions. We celebrate diversity and welcome opportunities to learn about ideas and beliefs that are different from our own.
